Just got diagnosed with HSV 1 and 2

I went in for STD testing yesterday because I had a new partner and was feeling my anxiety creep in. Well I was there seeing a different doctor than usual because the other gynecologist left that practice. She was getting the tests ready on her computer and said when was the last time you were tested for HSV? It doesn't autopolulate as one of our routine tests. I said I didn't know, I just knew I asked to be tested for everything anytime I've gone in the past. Anyways, today the doctor called me and said I was positive for HSV 1 and 2. I'm so stressed and anxious! I have no symptoms and never had. Never had an outbreak ever! She said by the test she could tell I've had it for at least 6 months maybe several years. (Not sure how that works). I asked when i had been tested last for it and she looked back all the way to 2018 and said there are no tests for it that I've ever had. Why do they not test for this routinely?? I thought I was good for who knows how long! I have a newer partner of like 3 months and I'm so scared to tell him. Also I've seen things that say it's highly contagious without symptoms, like 1 to 3%, but that sounds low to me.
