Is there a way to make rules easier?

I just bought the essential kit, it’s my first approach ever to d&d and my friends and I have never played before, I was wondering if we MUST read all the 64 pages of the rule book since I thought it could be a bit overwhelming, I read some pages but there’s things I don’t understand and I was wondering if I can make it easier to understand by skipping certain chapters or rules so I can understand it better and explain my friends the rules as well
