A taste in divinity: Mysore Soapy Sandal from Jashan Fragrances (Piyush bhai)
I am a huge fan of sandalwood: Mysore Sandal talcum powder, Mysore Sandal soap, Cauvery Emporium (Karnataka govt dealer) sandalwood powder and incenses (agarbatti, dhoop, everything) are a regular around me. I am obsessed with sandalwood.
However, I hadn't found the perfect perfume yet. I don't like perfumes that purport to be sandalwood but I have to concentrate to find my beloved note among the blast of citrus, amber, and what not. I did try various roll-ons and aerosols from Cauvery Emporium, but they were a bit too harsh for my taste. Basically, what I wanted was the Mysore Sandal Soap in gaseous form.
That's when I decided to give Jashan a shot. I had been hearing about him from Kedarmax (how he's the best yada yada) but didn't want to spend even more money on perfumes. But the allure remained. Gave it a shot. Downloaded the Excel sheet. Pinged him on WhatsApp.
Did he have a perfume resembling wet Sandalwood — the earthy sandalwood paste of Indian temples in the morning? No.
Okay.
But he said he's making something a bit different. Soapy sandalwood.
I didn't trust him. I have had my heart broken and trust lost far too many times regarding sandalwood. But still, decided to give it a try. Extrait concentration.
Oh my goodness what a smell! I couldn't believe it. Smelled almost exactly like holding a Mysore Sandal soap bar (before you get it wet). Magnificent.
I applied it on my inner elbow to office today and can't stop sniffing my arms (his dry sandal creation -- Santal NOX, reminiscent of sandalwood incense -- on my other arm). It's just so damn good.
I think I'll order a bigger bottle soon --- and maybe make this my signature scent. I'm in love!
