Commercial construction company in Australia

Hi all,

I will try and keep this as brief as possible! Essentially since I have been a child I have been extremely interested in the prospect of being an entrepreneur / owning my own business. Through the path of life and following my interests and passions, I have found myself completing university and working in Construction Management for a pretty reputable commercial builder in Australia.

I am only 2 years into my career, but at the moment I am saving all of my money, making as many subcontractor connections as I can (so eventually when I go to do my own stuff, I can get them to help me out), as well as establishing connections with Architects and Engineering consultants.

I want to keep working in management for potentially another 4-5 years, to soak up as much as I can before i eventually think about parting and working as my own company to do smaller commercial projects, say in the $1-$5 million range, to start off with.

Any advice to try and start a commercial construction business? I understand cash flow is a huge thing, but is this goal unrealistic or possible? Any advice on what else I should be doing to get me closer to my goal? At the moment I am trying to establish as many relationships as I can so when I do my own business then they will know who I am and have worked with me in the past.
Any help is highly appreciated.
