Easter Vigil
Good morning, All!
My wife and I are going to be having our marriage sanctified (FINALLY!) at the end of the Easter Vigil next month.
We have been told by Father and Deacon that Easter Vigil does NOT count as attending Mass for the week and that we need to attend the Mass Saturday evening, or Sunday morning, following Easter Vigil to fulfill our obligations.
All the things I’ve read state that Easter Vigil counts as a Mass and therefore we wouldn’t be required to attend another that week.
99.9% of the time we attend Mass Sunday mornings, but have never done this in the past following Easter Vigil.
Are we wrong? Does Easter Vigil count as a Mass? Do we need to attend Mass again Sunday?
It’s not a problem if we do. Our only concern (selfishly) is for our 4 and 8 year old boys. It’s difficult enough for them to sit through the late 3-4 hour Easter Vigil, but we know the importance and enjoy taking them to this.
But having to keep them up until 2am for Easter Vigil then turn around and bring them back a few hours later will most likely not go well (again, selfishly.)
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
