Does a Fender Jazz bass sound like a racecar exhaust?
I have a Squier bass guitar with one P-style pickup near the neck and a J-style pickup near the bridge. The sound of the J is a bit thinner than the P but has a great growl to it, especially doing slides up and down low on the E string.
The catalytic converter on our car has been hanging half-off the exhaust centrepiece for the last few days but we've been driving it here and there until we can get it replaced tomorrow. It's hell-noisy and there are times when I'm accelerating or slowing down that I swear it sounds like that J pickup, the same growl and rough-but-smooth thing going on.
Anyone else ever made that comparison? Is a Jazz bass known for its growl in comparison with the fuller thumpy sound of a Precision?
