If you love Banana Fish, please read A Home Far Away
I just finished this manga (I read the Japanese version, 遥か遠き家, but it looks like an official English translation released earlier this year) and I can’t get over how very much like Banana Fish it feels. Two deeply traumatized characters in a dangerous world with a powerful bond. Banana Fish has such a special place in my heart and now this manga does as well.
It is boy’s love so the romantic relationship is very clear, but it is able to avoid a lot of the more problematic parts of that genre (consent, mutual respect, etc).
The whole time I was thinking that these two stories definitely exist within the same universe, both being set in America with a lot of similar themes. If you’re looking for something to fill the Banana Fish void, please give it a try! It’s a completed story in just one volume (~270 pages).
