Sudden death of our ACD
Sudden death of ACD
I'm still struggling to process this and my wife is not doing well. This all happened yesterday and last night.
We had a 9.5 year old ACD, Inara, that was healthy and happy. She looked good for her age and still acted young. Hell, she was running with our toddler yesterday morning. We returned from the store in the afternoon and she wouldn't leave her crate nor would accept food. My wife rushed her to the urgent care.
The urgent care said it was likely pancreatitis and said outpatient treatment is an option with the preferred option being a 24-hr ER and a multi-day stay. We wanted her to stay at our local vet so we opted for outpatient and the vet confirmed that is okay. The vet gave Inara medicine and she came home. My wife and I watched a movie then heard a strange yelp/cry.
She died.
Without us knowing, she died. We called the vet and he just said sorry. No capability to do an autopsy.
Was she in pain when she died? She was 38lbs and on 0.45 mls buprenorphine. Is it possible for pancreatitis to have no symptoms then acutely develop and kill a relatively young dog? Has anyone else had this happen to their ACD? We are trying to get closure of some kind.
Any help is appreciated.
