What happens when the majority of people can’t afford ordinary lives?

So everything has been going up in the “cost of living” crisis and wages haven’t kept up. Imagining this will continue in the same manner barring some interjection.

What happens when it gets to a point that even the middle classes can’t afford housing etc?

Do end up dropping in a crash? Do we descend into lawlessness?

How does it ever get fixed?
