Alternative word for capsicum in Australia?

Is there any place in Australia that has a different name for capsicum🫑? I had a waiter at a pub in the Rocks in Sydney tell me "we don't call it that here". He even checked with the kitchen staff. He was young (20-ish) and definitely Aussie by his accent.

EDIT: A few have asked what pub this was but I won't mention it here. The waiter was very young and I don't think he meant to be rude so deserves a little slack. Some of the replies are pretty funny though 🤣

The interaction went roughly like this: I asked the waiter if the meal had capsicum because one of my tourist friends hates them. He was confused about what capsicum was so some of my friends tried to explain with other words. A European friend suggested paprika, and I think pepper might have been mentioned too. Still a bit unsure, he went to the kitchen to ask if the meal had capsicum in it. But also, he must have asked them what they call it because he came back very confident that it wasn't called capsicum. I couldn't be bothered correcting him so I just left it at that.
