Orville Peck
Just listened to the recent supplemental and I heard Geoff recommend Orville Peck. His description of him seemed to peak my interest so I checked him out.
Now when I was a child I loved country music, I listened to it exclusively well into highschool when I grew disillusioned with the genre, it’s culture, it’s history, and it’s industry. Since then my country consumption has been minimal but I always harbor a fondness for it’s good parts.
When I heard Geoff describe Orville Peck and his music I was certain it would be a sort of joking meme style type rendition. More satire than a genuine attempt. But holy shit does this gay cowboy music slap. As a queer bisexual man in the south I have never before felt so seen and spoken to than by this man Mr. Orville Peck. His music and vocals take everything I love about country and distills it to a form that makes me consider buying a CD for my homophobic mother who loves country-it’s that good. Peck is like if you took Elvis and made him a decent human being and fused him with Cash, Alan Jackson, and Steam Powered Giraffe.
That last band is a huge recommend if you like Peck. They have a great aesthetic and fanbase. I’d recommend the songs Hot On The Trail and Hold Me.
Thanks for the recommendation, Geoff. From one anarchist to another, thank you ANMA.
