PDA or Demand Avoidance treatment is ABA?
So I, a late diagnosed ADHD parent, am homeschooling my 10 year old kid. They have ADHD, and it's been brought to my attention that their avoidance of school work could be PDA or demand avoidance. They pick their topics, and as soon as there is a tiny bit of difficulty, they give up. They won't take any instruction either, so that makes it difficult as well. So we're constantly changing it up, which is exhausting for me. We have done classes which are set up like traditional school classes and he becomes very angry and beligerant. Then gets depressed because he wants to do the class, but is struggling. When we brought up enrolling him in school he spent hours crying, he has friends in the school is smart and outgoing. I wanted to get him some help, but I was mortified that ABA was the only thing I was finding as a treatment.
What have others done that may be successful that helps?
